Advantages of Gray Iron Castings

Gray iron has excellent properties which can reduce vibration and noise, giving it great damping capacity. This makes it ideal for vibration control. Gray iron also has high thermal conductivity, which makes it suitable for castings requiring heat transfer. This also allows improved thermal cycling.  Additionally gray iron acts as a natural lubricant and holds lubricants due to graphite flakes in microstructure. Strength; good compression properties suitable for a wide range of load bearing needs.  Compared to other cast iron, gray iron is more affordable.
